Pre-COP and Partnership Day 2017

The 2017 Ministerial Dialogue, known as Pre-COP, and will be held at the Sheraton/Westin Resort on Denarau Island, in Nadi, Fiji, 17-18 October. These resorts are approximately 20 minutes from Nadi International Airport.

Pre-COP 2017 is designed primarily as a series of closed sessions for political leaders and key advisers. The objective of the Pre-COP is to allow the leaders of member parties to frankly exchange views of key political deliverables, rather than technical details, for the upcoming Conference of the Parties – COP23.

The COP23 Presidency will hold a “Partnership Day” for invited guests on 16 October 2017 in advance of the Pre-COP. The objective of the Partnership Day is to build on the outcomes of the Climate Action Pacific Partnership (CAPP) Conference held in Suva July 2017, the UNFCCC Climate Action Agenda, and on international efforts to help build a grand coalition for climate action.

This is an opportunity to highlight best practices, examine potential transformative innovations and develop productive processes – providing valuable inputs into the work of the Presidency, not just for COP23 in November, but for the rest of 2018 and beyond.

As there are limited resources, numbers will unfortunately need to be strictly limited and attendance will be by invitation only. We will draw from the CAPP Conference invitation list and key stakeholders involved in partnership projects. Numbers will be limited to two per organisation.

Partnership Day sessions will focus on outcomes from the following: various grand coalition activities; the UNFCCC Climate Action Program; the Climate Action Pacific Partnership; Climate Finance and Risk Management activities; UNFCCC Observer constituency groups and the potential development of an ocean health/climate action pathway.
