Talanoa Dialogue at GCAS
1) High-Level Talanoa at GCAS – “A Rapid Transition to a Net-Zero Emissions Society”
2018 is the year of the Talanoa Dialogue, a global process requested by Parties to the UNFCCC to take stock of collective efforts to reduce emissions and build greater resilience, in line with the long-term goals of the Paris Agreement, and to support the preparation of updated or new Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs).
The Fijian COP23 President and Prime Minister, Hon. Frank Bainimarama has invited twenty-five dignitaries and heads of organisations from around the world to a Talanoa on “A Rapid transition to a Net-Zero Emissions Society”.
This exciting Talanoa will be an opening event for the Global Climate Action Summit. Heads of government, mayors, governors, CEOs of companies, and heads of inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations will come together in the spirit of talanoa, the Pacific way of storytelling to build trust and consensus. They will share their inspirational and thought-provoking stories on what is needed to promote a more rapid transition to a net-zero emissions and resilient world.
These high-level participants will share their experiences and insights, in the spirit of talanoa, on what is needed to strengthen and expand public and private sector partnerships and synergies to fast-track to a net-zero emissions world as soon possible.
The Talanoa will only be on the third question of the Talanoa Dialogue – How do we get there?
