Winners of the COP23 Pacific Photo Competition

The winners of the COP23 Pacific Photo Competition have been selected and are now available to view on the COP23 website. The 39 images showcase the effects of and response to climate change from around the Pacific, as seen through the lenses of local amateur photographers.

The competition received more than 200 submissions from photographers in 10 Pacific island countries, highlighting the similar threats that island nations face as a result of climate change, including rising sea levels, extreme weather events and changes to agriculture.

The images were selected by a panel of judges at the COP23 Secretariat for their creativity, quality, originality, relevance and overall impact.

Speaking at the close of the Pre-COP event held in Nadi, Fijian Prime Minister and COP23 President Frank Bainimarama said that he hoped these images will also draw global attention to the urgency of tackling what we face.

In addition to being showcased on the COP23 website, the winning photographs will be displayed prominently at COP23 in Bonn, Germany, to highlight the impacts of climate change in the Pacific to delegates and attendees from around the world.
